The Ship Has Sailed...
David Alexander De Maus (1847-1925) arrived in New Zealand by the 'Caribou' in 1867. He set up a photography business at 62 George Street, Port Chalmers. De Maus was also popular entertainer, writing and performing his own satirical songs. These photographs were taken by De Maus between about 1875-1899, and consist of ships visiting Port Chalmers, views of the area, and also a number of wrecks in the lower South Island.
