Photographer and painter Edward Steichen (1879-1973) is well known for his experimentation with color photography in the early 1900's. In 1907 in France, after the Lumiere brothers perfected their autochrome process, Steichen bought a supply of plates and used them to photograph people, flowers, landscapes and different scenes.all images scanned from Steichen's Legacy Photographs, 1895-1973
