Squaw Valley
The passing of time has inspired artists for centuries. Recent initiatives include Irena Werning's Back to the Future Project and Clarisse d'Arcimoles' Un-possible Retour where people are asked to re-enact a scene from an old photograph. The juxtaposition of both images creates an interesting, funny and, at times, moving work of art, raising questions about identity, our memories, hopes and reality.
A particulary moving artistic project that investigates similar questions is Margriet Luyten's Stervelingen (created in 2009). Luyten combined recent pictures of centenarians with images of her subjects as young people. I like her tender approach; the way she 'humanizes' a generation that is often considered 'invisible' Check out more of her impressive work on her website.
